Inmate Visitation at Wayne County Jail

The following inmate visitation information applies to all three Wayne County Jail system divisions. 

Inmates are allowed in-person visits Monday through Friday, and professional visits are allowed seven days a week. 

Visitation Hours

• 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
• 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Individuals at least 17 years of age and with a state-issued photo ID will be allowed one 30-minute in-person visit per week. An authorized adult must be present with any minors under the age of 17. 

The inmate must schedule their in-person visit at least 24 hours in advance. Persons scheduled for a visit must report to the lobby desk and submit their photo ID. The following are some of the visitation rules. 

• Attorneys visiting inmates must present a valid bar card. 
• Probation and parole officers will need to present valid work IDs. 
• Clergy visits must be approved by the chaplain.
• All visitors are screened through the LEIN system to ensure no no-contact orders are in place. Those with court orders preventing contact will be turned away.
• Visitors with warrants will be subject to arrest. 
• Inmates can only have two visitors for each visitation session. 
• Visitors must wait in the lobby until their name is called. 
• Visitors are only allowed one visit per week with an inmate. 
• All visitors will be screened for contraband.
• All visitors entering the jail are subject to being searched.
• All visitors must go through the magnetometer. 
• All visits will take place at the visiting booth.

The following dress code applies to all visitors to the jail. 

• Undergarments must be worn by all visitors. Adult females must wear bras. 
• Clothing that exposes any skin is not allowed. 
• See-through clothing is not allowed.
• Halter tops and tube tops are not permitted.
• Skirts and shorts must not be shorter than six inches above the knee.
• Clothing that exposes undergarments is forbidden.
• Sleeveless tops are permitted if the arm holes do not expose the undergarments.

How to Send Mail to Inmates in Wayne County Jail

Include the inmate’s full name and 10-digit booking number. The sender must also include their full name and address in case the mail needs to be returned.

Loved ones also have the option of sending electronic messages to inmates through JPay. JPay first scans all electronic messages for security issues and then sends them to the Michigan Department of Corrections, where the messages are screened again.

Messages with inappropriate content will be rejected. Prisoners will be given access to the electronic message via kiosks located in the Wayne County Jail. Prisoners can store up to 75 messages for viewing later.

The inmate may respond to the electronic message by purchasing electronic stamps. For a small fee, the inmate can also receive a printed version of the electronic message.

There are some rules that must be followed for electronic messages. 

• Prisoners cannot receive photo collages.
• Only one photo per page is allowed.
• Staff members may block a sender from transmitting messages.
• If the sender is blocked, they can continue to send mail to the prisoner via the U.S. Postal System.

Only individuals 18 and over are allowed to post bonds. Bonders are served at the window on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the process begins, a LEIN inquiry will be conducted on the inmate to ensure they have no other warrants.

• Cashier’s checks and certified money orders must be addressed to the sheriff of Wayne County.
